DogTemperatures.co.uk was built by a small team of dog owners who got tired of searching for the same question every summer and winter in the UK.

Is it too hot or too cold to walk the dog? The answers we found were always the same – generic blog posts, vague graphics, and news articles that assumed we had time to read 1,500 words before reaching for the lead.

We wanted something faster. Something that just told us the answer.

What we do

We combine live weather data with established guidance from the RSPCA and the Kennel Club to give dog owners a straight answer – right now, for their area. Not yesterday’s forecast. Not a national average. The conditions outside your door, translated into plain English.

The same logic works year-round. Scorching summer pavements and icy winter paths both pose real risks to dogs. Our tool accounts for both, so whether it’s a July heatwave or a February frost, you get an honest verdict before you step outside.

Why it matters

Pavement burns are more common than most owners realise. On a sunny day, tarmac can reach temperatures of 50°C or higher – hot enough to cause serious damage to paw pads in under a minute. In winter, grit salt and ice create their own hazards. These aren’t rare edge cases. They happen to dogs whose owners simply didn’t know.

Beyond the tool, we publish practical guidance on walking your dog safely in all weathers, from the 5-second pavement test to breed-specific advice for flat-faced dogs in summer. Everything we publish is grounded in RSPCA and veterinary guidance, written in plain English, and kept up to date.
